Time and time again, Republicans in Congress have shown where their true allegiance lies: to Donald Trump and nothing else. Not to the truth, the Constitution, or the people they were elected to serve.
And now they just used the undemocratic filibuster to block the creation of a bipartisan January 6th Commission and bury the truth about the attack on our democracy.
Even though the Senate vote in favor of considering the 1/6 Commission was 54 to 35 (with 11 no-shows), we fell 6 votes short of the supermajority of 60 required to overcome the filibuster and proceed.
And that’s not all. Blind Republican allegiance to the Big Lie and Donald Trump is not confined to Republicans in D.C. or this investigation into the insurrection. All across the country, Republican politicians are pushing new voter suppression bills at the state level and trying to make it harder for people to cast their ballots in 2022.
In Arizona, Republican state legislators are conducting an unfounded and disastrous “audit” of the 2020 election results and working to strip the Democratic Secretary of State of her power to defend election-related lawsuits in the state.
It’s a nakedly political attempt to ensure Republicans alone have final oversight over the outcome of Arizona’s elections.
From the U.S. Senate to Arizona, it is clear that the Republican Party has no interest in a true democracy or making progress for the American people. Instead, their top priorities are to advance the Big Lie and prevent people from exercising their right to vote.
That’s why we must end the filibuster and pass the ‘For the People Act’. If you can, please consider making a contribution to our campaign ahead of the end-of-month deadline to us build an unstoppable Democratic wave to defeat them at the ballot box in 2022 and protect our Senate majority:
