Friend,

In the course of my public service, I’ve been an impeachment manager who prosecuted a corrupt president. I’ve represented the incredible people of Orlando in Congress, with pride.

But before all that, I was a Black girl who grew up poor in the South. I went to segregated schools. I could only dream of a seat at the table in politics – or even just being in the room. Nearly every day, I think about the fact that I am a descendant of slaves who knew that they would not make it, but dreamed and prayed that one day I would.

I made it – and I stand on the shoulders of giants who fought and shed blood and tears before me. Here’s what I see: a modern-day Republican Party that grows more extreme and dangerous by the day. So-called leaders like Mitch McConnell, Marco Rubio and Kevin McCarthy. They are not fit for the offices they hold.

But here’s what I know for sure: The Republican Party will throw whatever they can at us – and to fight, to win, I need you. Can I count on you to make a grassroots contribution of $5, straight from the heart, to help me stop the GOP in Florida?
