Here's the latest. On top of numerous attempts to gerrymander and suppress the vote, Republicans are attacking two key institutions that make our elections run fairly and smoothly: the courts and election officials.
- According to the nonpartisan Brennan Center for Justice at NYU Law, Republican legislators in eight states have introduced bills that explicitly target what courts can do in election-related cases.
- And The Washington Post reports that "Republicans aren't just making it harder to vote. They're going after election officials, too," leading many of those officials -- "the heroes of the 2020 election" -- to leave their jobs.
The bottom line is that the GOP is waging a multifaceted scorched-earth campaign on fair elections. To save our democracy we have to fight back on every front -- and that's going to take significant resources.
