John,
“Get out of here! You don't belong in this neighborhood!' You b****!”
“The next time I see you, I'm going to run you over with my car!”
“The Asian girls are the most ignorant b****es out of everyone.”
These are just a few of the 6,600 verbal attacks recorded by Stop AAPI Hate since 2020. These are the words that Asian Americans, especially Asian American women, have to endure every day.
Today, we're taking inspiration from VP Kamala Harris and transforming pain into action.
When reflecting on the passage of the COVID-19 Hate Crimes Act, Harris made something clear: “I share in that outrage and that grief. And I believe we have an opportunity now to turn that pain into action. To turn that pain, that righteous anger, because of the injustice of it, we have an opportunity to turn that into power.”
We believe so too, John. That's why every day, we're working to bring diverse AAPI candidates to the table. We're making sure that our voices are heard in our communities, our government, and every place where decisions are made.
But these are exactly the kinds of people who struggle to make it in a political system created to uphold white supremacy -- one that rewards racists like Josh Hawley while tearing down powerhouses like Vanita Gupta.
