There were 54 votes in favor of creating a bipartisan commission to investigate the January 6th insurrection in the Senate yesterday. Only 35 votes opposed.

But the vote still failed. A huge minority in the Senate was able to block an investigation of the worst attack on our democracy since the Civil War.

The choice is clear: protect our democracy or support the filibuster. The Jim Crow relic is letting the Republican Party hold our democracy hostage. And we must eliminate it.

After the January 6th insurrection, both Texas senators claimed they were appalled by the attack on our democracy.

Yesterday, they both voted against a bipartisan commission to investigate it. That’s absolute cowardice — plain and simple.

January 6th was an appalling attack on our democracy and the Republican Party is beholden to the man who led it. It’s shameful — but we can do something about it.

We must end the filibuster and safeguard our democracy by passing the For the People Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Act.

The truth is that ending the filibuster would not destroy our government or bipartisanship as some want to claim. It would in fact make government more effective because we could actually get things done.
