Earlier this week, we were met with a tragic encapsulation of America’s gun violence crisis: News of a mass shooting in San Jose, CA interrupted the confirmation hearing of David Chipman—the nominee to serve as director of the only federal agency responsible for addressing gun violence. We urge the Senate to confirm Chipman, end the filibuster, and start treating gun violence like the public health crisis it is.
