When we say we rely on grassroots funding more than anyone, we mean it. 82% of all the money we’ve raised has come from small-dollar donors. That’s a higher percentage than anyone else — Republican or Democrat — in the House. Our average donation is just $17, and we’re proud of that fact.
Grassroots fundraising power is our movement’s strongest advantage. But when we started digging into the latest campaign finance reports, we got a little concerned: Small-dollar donations to Democrats in the House dropped 62% last quarter.
We know it feels like we’re a million years away from the next election. It might even be tempting to step back from the activism and organizing that won us the 2018 and 2020 elections now that Democrats control Congress and the White House.
But, we can’t afford to slow the pace this year. Not only do we need to organize to protect our slim majorities in Congress, but we need to lay the groundwork to expand the number of progressives who will hold the line for a $15 minimum wage, the Green New Deal, Medicare for All, and so much more.
If small-dollar enthusiasm slows down, campaigns like ours who rely on grassroots support will be hurt the most. That’s why it’s important that we hit every one of our monthly fundraising goals this year — and why we’re asking for your help today as we strive to reach our end-of-month goal of 15,000 contributions before Monday’s deadline.
