Congresswoman Tenney's Weekly Newsletter Contact Me Memorial Day Message On Memorial Day, we honor the millions of American heroes who have paid the ultimate sacrifice in selfless service to our nation. This weekend, please join me in remembering the courage and the patriotism that our servicemen and women have displayed over the past two and a half centuries. These brave men and women answered the call to serve for a cause greater than themselves and to advance our sacred liberties. As you spend time with your families this weekend, please pause to remember these brave men and women, their lives and their ultimate sacrifice. In honor of their legacy, we also must pledge to continue to stand for our values and to ensure prosperity for generations to come. Purple Heart Ceremony for World War I Veterans It was an honor to award Purple Hearts posthumously to the late Private James E. Overturf and Private Charles A. Wells, who both served in the U.S. Army during World War I. Privates Overturf and Wells fought and bled for our country, helping to secure our sacred freedoms for generations to come. They exemplify the best of what it means to be American patriots. Their families and our community will never forget their sacrifices and their Purple Hearts will be an enduring reminder of their noble service. I'd also like to extend my appreciation to the Commander of the Central New York Chapter 490 Military Order of the Purple Heart Joe Fraccola, New York State Assemblywoman Marianne Buttenschon, the Mayor of Utica Robert Palmieri, members of the New Hartford American Legion, and members of the Daughters of the American Revolution for participating in this ceremony. WKTV: Posthumous Purple Hearts Awarded to WWI Veterans in Utica Marine Corps League in Ilion It was an honor to join the Marine Corps League in Ilion yesterday morning as we begin Memorial Day Weekend. The new memorial unveiled is a beautiful tribute to all who’ve served and sacrificed in America’s Armed Forces. Biden's Disastrous Budget Proposal President Biden released his Fiscal Year 2022 budget yesterday. This egregious $6 trillion in federal spending would exceed any budget ever proposed by a president since World War II. This budget proposal is simply economic malpractice. At a time when we need to focus on our recovery by empowering small businesses and supporting families, the Biden Budget does the opposite. It is big government at its worst, with more taxes, greater regulation, and unprecedented spending that will drive our nation further into debt. This $6 trillion budget will lead to the highest debt to GDP ratio in our country’s history. The plan underfunds our military, eliminates tax cuts for middle class families and retroactively raises taxes on small businesses. Consumers will end up paying more across the board. Unemployment is already up, inflation has risen by 4.2%, and our economy has been crippled by massive government spending. The Biden Budget continues to move our country in the wrong direction. It will derail our recovery and do irreparable harm to our economic freedoms and prosperity. WATCH: Claudia Calls for Investigation into Origins of COVID-19 The evidence exposing the Chinese Communist Party’s attempt to hide the outbreak and origins of COVID-19 is piling up. It’s not rhetoric, it’s not politics – it’s a genuine search for the truth. We know the CCP cannot be trusted and that it actively worked to suppress the voices of doctors who spoke out about this outbreak early on. We must deliver justice to those who’ve suffered and prevent another global pandemic. That's why the United States and democracies around the world need to demand an open and transparent investigation. This week I joined 209 House Republicans in sending a letter to Speaker Pelosi asking her to launch an investigation into the CCP. I don't believe Congress has done enough under her leadership to get to the bottom of this. China is liable and the World Health Organization remains complicit by not seeking the truth. The Right to Vote is Sacred LISTEN: Claudia Joins She Thinks Podcast I joined Beverly Hallberg, the host of She Thinks podcast, to discuss the importance of election security. We must encourage states to implement safe voting practices that preserve the integrity of the ballot box. I'm working to set the record straight and push the facts about why we must secure our elections and prevent disastrous proposals like HR 1 from becoming law. I am focused on representing you in Washington and will continue to support commonsense legislation that delivers results for New York families, small businesses, and seniors. This is what I cosponsored this week: H.R. 3435: To establish a broadband expansion grant program, to streamline the permitting process for fixed and mobile broadband services, and for other purposes. HR 3508: To designate the facility of the United States Postal Service located at 39 West Main Street, in Honeoye Falls, New York, as the "CW4 Christian J. Koch Memorial Post Office". Cosigned a letter addressed to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi calling for an investigation into the origins of COVID-19 Restoring Made in America I joined the Manufacturers Association of Central New York this week to discuss my work in Congress to strengthen U.S. manufacturing. I’m fighting to restore the Made in America movement and bring jobs back to the United States. The pandemic underscored the dangers of relying on countries like China for manufacturing and supply chains. That’s exactly why I introduced the American Innovation and Manufacturing (AIM) Act, which will increase capital for small manufacturing businesses right here in our community. Tenney says 'it's incredibly important' for rural areas to have broadband internet Having access to fast, reliable, and affordable internet is critically important to the success of our region. It impacts just about every aspect of our lives, and for too long New Yorkers have not had the access they need at costs they can afford. This needs to change. I hosted a roundtable in Sherburne this week with local elected officials, educators, and small businesses to review several new and innovative ideas to provide solutions to tackle the challenge of limited broadband access. We need to enable competition to lower costs and increase resources to expand access. If our region is going to compete in a 21st century economy, we need 21st century tools and technology available to every family and small business. This week I also unveiled my plan to expand and invest in broadband access for Upstate New York. You can review my full plan here. Small Biz Outreach Tour Continues I was in Utica this week, where I joined members of the Utica Chamber of Commerce for a great discussion on issues impacting our small business community. I also visited Strategic Global Aviation in Rome to learn more about their workforce and operations. Our region’s economy is driven by our small businesses, and I’m committed to fighting for them in Congress.
