Remembering Those Who Have Made the Ultimate Sacrifice
For most Louisianans, Memorial Day Weekend will be spent kicking off summer by barbecuing or spending time with friends and relatives. But not all of our families are so fortunate.
Many of our military families across the state will be remembering their loved ones who paid the ultimate sacrifice defending America. It is important that we remember and honor the fallen, not only today, but every day. We honor their memories and their sacrifices by never taking our freedom for granted.
Our freedom and way of life have come at a heavy price, and that must never be forgotten.
Jennifer and I pray for and remember these fallen soldiers and their families. We owe everything to our men and women serving in the armed forces who risk their lives to keep us safe, and today let us all honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.
Calling on Speaker Pelosi and Congressional Democrats to Investigate COVID-19's Origins
On Friday, I led over 200 members of the Republican Conference in a letter to Speaker Pelosi urging her to direct Democrat Committee chairs to join House Republicans in investigating the origins of COVID-19.
It has been nearly 18 months since COVID-19 emerged from Wuhan, China, and House Democrats have not held a single hearing on the origins of the COVID-19 despite House Republicans asking numerous times for congressional investigatory resources be devoted to examining the claims that the pandemic started in a Chinese lab, and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) covered it up.
This past week, the Wall Street Journal reported that three researchers from China's Wuhan Institute of Virology became ill with symptoms consistent with COVID-19 and sought hospital care in November 2019.
Despite this new evidence, House Democrats have not taken the necessary steps to hold the CCP accountable for its role in the pandemic.
In our letter to Speaker Pelosi, we wrote, “These questions about the CCP’s liability are not a diversion, as you falsely claimed. To the contrary, every American family that lost someone deserves answers about the origin of this terrible virus, and House Democrats’ ongoing refusal to allocate investigative resources to get those answers is an affront to them.”
Combating Rising Gas Prices
The American Automobile Association (AAA) reports that drivers will see the highest gas prices since 2014 over the Memorial Day weekend.
The national gas price average currently sits at $3.04, which is $1.08 more expensive than last year.
The nation's high gas prices come on the heels of the Colonial Pipeline cyberattack earlier this month and President Biden's decision to shut down the Keystone XL pipeline with the stroke of a pen on his first day in office.
I have called on President Biden to invest in our nation's critical infrastructure and reevaluate the regulations and permitting processes that prevent construction of new pipelines from distributing fuel throughout the country and expanding domestic refining capacity. We must ensure that every region in the country can enjoy the same levels of energy reliability.
How to Stay Prepared Ahead of Hurricane Season
June 1 marks the start of the Atlantic Hurricane Season, and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) predicts a 60 percent chance of an above-normal season.
Already, we've seen the first named storm this year when Tropical Storm Ana formed near Bermuda last week. As we move through the summer and into the more active months of hurricane season, it's imperative for Louisiana residents to follow the advice of local officials, monitor local news, and prepare early.
It is an honor to represent you in Congress. For more information, please visit my website, Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook pages.
