John,

As a young Latina Chicagoan, I encounter different sides of the city and world every day. Unfortunately, I met the darkest side when my boyfriend and I were shot at while he was driving me home two years ago.

I was wounded during that shooting, and our lives were forever changed.

Ever since that horrific day, I've been motivated to make a difference for our generation and the ones to follow, so that my pain and my loved ones' pain isn't shared by more and more people. With the help of my mom, family, boyfriend, and loved ones, I have continued this fight with Students Demand Action as an Advisory Board member, working with others to achieve our goal of ending gun violence.

That's why this year, I'll #WearOrange with people across the country for National Gun Violence Awareness Day and Wear Orange Weekend. During the first weekend in June, I'll be joining other advocates to honor those taken or forever changed by gun violence and to demand action.

Find an event near you and RSVP to join us for Wear Orange Weekend, June 4-6.

By wearing orange, you can help us make sure that no one has to experience the pain of gun violence that I and so many other people have experienced.

With your help, we can make this year the biggest Wear Orange Weekend yet.

Thank you for being a part of this movement, and remember to wear orange June 4-6.
