Tell the Biden administration and Congress: Create a roadmap to citizenship for all immigrants! Photo: Carl Roose/AFSC

Dear John,

Earlier this week, the Biden administration announced it would protect tens of thousands of people from Haiti from deportation by allowing them to continue living and working in the U.S. under the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) program. The victory comes after years of organizing and advocacy by Haitian migrants, their families, communities, and people like you supporting these efforts.

Now we need a permanent solution for all 11 million undocumented immigrants in the U.S. Tell Congress and the Biden administration: It's time to create a roadmap to citizenship for all immigrants!

Here are this week's picks to inform and support your activism:

Tell Congress: Invest in communities, not policing: This week marked one year since the police murder of George Floyd. Today we must keep up our call for elected officials to move money out of bloated police budgets and into critical needs such as schools, health care, and transformative justice initiatives.

AFSC intern Lidia Yen is working to address racism, inequity in Concord schools: Originally from South Sudan, Lidia has emerged as one of the young leaders driving systemic change as New Hampshire reckons with its own legacy of racism and white supremacy. (Concord Monitor)

An open letter to Joseph Biden, from a woman in Gaza: Israeli bombs may not be falling at the moment, but there is still no peace in the occupied Palestinian territory, writes Haneen Shat, who is an intern with AFSC in Gaza. (Current Affairs)

Tell Congress: Stop funding war and militarism!: Yesterday, the Biden administration released its budget request to Congress. Please join us in urging the administration to divest from war, immigration enforcement, and prisons and fund programs that meet the real needs of our communities and address global problems.

Are your investments supporting the recent Israeli military attacks on Gaza?: Knowing what you own is the first step to aligning your investments with your values. Our Investigate tool can help you see if you are invested in state violence through companies involved in mass incarceration, immigrant detention and surveillance, military occupation, or the border industry.

Do’s and don’ts for bystander intervention: With increasing reports of violence and harassment in communities across the U.S., it’s important that we know how to keep each other safe. Use these tips to assess how to intervene while considering the safety of everyone involved.

Be well and take care
