This gate is in the Palestinian refugee camp in Aida, where Israeli soldiers shot a 13 year old child who was down the hill, about 200 meters away, through the gun slot on the left side of that steel gate. And that orange sign says "Please hide yourself against live and rubber bullets and teargas shot by the most moral army in the world." I.F. Stone said "All governments lie" and Israel is no exception. There are many lies about the modern creation of Israel, the occupation, the Palestinian resistance and more. And there are really a growing number of Jewish voices calling these crimes out. But it's very difficult to talk to people who have internalized these stories which aren't true. It makes people feel attacked, I see and understand that, but the truth MUST be brought to light. Gabor Maté, a Holocaust survivor and physician who specializes in psychological trauma, said "Don't be afraid to be disillusioned. Would you rather be illusioned or disillusioned? I want to see things the way
they are. So it's not a bad thing." And yes, he was talking about his transformation from Zionist to antiZionist, because he now sees what Israel is. It is with the goal of disillusioning and of helping others speak to illusioned people about the very real crimes of the Israeli government, that I wrote this blog. Yes, Israel and Hamas have agreed to a ceasefire. Within 12 hours, Israeli forces were again storming the al Aqsa Mosque, which is part of what initiated the violence in the first place. There was a nationwide general strike in which all the Palestinians in all of Israel's areas participated. It was called the largest show of Palestinian unity since the 1936 general strike. The next day Israel began issuing arrest warrants for protesters. The above link is to an article, but I've seen a video of two Palestinian journalists being arrested, and a friend I have in East Jerusalem name Bakr says there have been beatings and at least one farmer was shot. This seems to be Israel trying to goad the Palestinians into responding, to initiate more violence. I mean why else would they go back and storm the al Aqsa Mosque again?
And yes, more ethnic cleansing. The Israeli court put a hold on the Sheikh Jarrah evictions, waiting until there is less public scrutiny, but "The Silwan neighborhood in Jerusalem is facing the same Israeli ethnic cleansing that is threatening the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood, and this time will be targeting 86 Palestinian families." Those aren't MY words, they are the words of Miko Peled, the son of one of Israel's most decorated generals. He's also the person that posted the above image of Silwan. In the video below, hear him describe how Israel has victimized Gaza for decades, but keep in mind that while Hamas was able to fire more rockets, and farther, than they ever have, this was not the case in 2016 when the video was made.
