John,
Menstrual hygiene is a critical part of well-being. Lack of proper education, persisting taboos and stigma, and limited access to pads, tampons, cups, and period underwear undermines the health of millions around the world.
Menstrual health and hygiene is a critical component to reproductive justice.
Today is recognized as Menstrual Hygiene Day, a global advocacy day to ensure people aren’t pushed out of society because of lack of access to period products [1]. For too long, menstrual hygiene has not only gone undiscussed but actively shamed into the shadows.
Everyone deserve access to menstrual products.
Luckily, the tide seems to be turning with more and more exploring not only the variety of options around menstrual hygiene, but also the need for institutions to provide more resources from free, available products in schools and prisons to workplaces offering sick days for period side effects to the medical establishment finally recognizing and working towards treatment for conditions like endometriosis.
We encourage you to think today what you can do to help make menstrual health and hygiene accessible for those around the world.
Sincerely,
Erin Matson
