John, I want to take a moment to tell you my story.

The day after Thanksgiving in 2012, my son Jordan was sitting in the back seat of a friend’s car at a gas station. A man pulled up next to them, complaining about the “loud music” they were playing. The man pulled out a gun and fired 10 shots into the car, hitting Jordan, and killing him.

After my son’s death, I dedicated my life to preventing other families from experiencing the kind of pain I did.

I left a 30-year career as a flight attendant at Delta Airlines. I ran for Congress, and I became the first Democrat to represent Georgia’s 6th District since 1979. And I co-sponsored the Bipartisan Background Checks Act, which passed the House in March.

But Republicans are working overtime to take back this congressional seat. They want to gerrymander my district so I can’t win again. They’re trying to suppress the vote to disenfranchise Democrats.

I believe in a world where no mother ever has to go through what I did again, but I’ll need your help if I’m going to keep fighting gun violence in Congress. >>
