As the American Jobs Plan continues to be debated in Congress, we released our priorities for what needs to be included. Here are just some of the climate measures our country needs in this infrastructure package to protect our communities and jumpstart our transition to a clean energy economy:
A clean electricity standard that requires 80 percent clean energy by 2030 and 100 percent by 2035, coupled with a decade-long platform for clean energy tax credits and policies to electrify our economy.
Robust funding to transition freight and public transit fleets to zero-emission vehicles and install a national network of charging infrastructure, among other surface transportation policies.
A focus on ensuring that funding intentionally addresses long-standing injustices and invests in communities disproportionately impacted by pollution.
This won’t be easy. The negotiations over the package are still ongoing, and no one knows what will end up in the final bill. There is reporting that a deal might mean cutting key climate measures such as:
Ending fossil fuel subsidies
$200 billion to retrofit buildings and homes for better energy efficiency
Thanks to your help in 2020, SEEC PAC was able to re-elect over 95% of our pro-environment members to the U.S. House of Representatives — defying the odds on a night where Democrats lost seats. Now we are counting on you to help our SEEC members pass climate, clean energy and environmental justice policies in the 117th Congress while we undo the damage of the Trump Administration.
