The Republican Party has stooped to a new low, John.

Just now, Mitch McConnell and his GOP obstructionists defeated a proposal to establish a January 6 commission to investigate the horrendous attack on our Capitol and our democracy earlier this year.

It’s despicable that not enough Republicans could scrape together the courage to join their colleagues to establish this bipartisan commission. It goes against everything we should stand for as a country.

It’s being reported that McConnell blocked this commission merely for political gain. Even as the mother of the slain Capitol Police officer went door-to-door pleading with Republicans to support this bill.

McConnell and the GOP would rather walk on eggshells to appease the most dangerous, far-right members of their base than do what’s right and hold Donald Trump accountable.

It’s a disgrace, and we must call it out.
