It is with an aching, heavy heart that we mourn the loss of a dear friend, a champion of conservatism, and a true American patriot: Foster S. Friess.

I vividly remember the moment I first met Foster. At the 2012 Republican National Convention in Tampa, I was walking through stairwell after stairwell looking for hope and a reason to keep the TPUSA dream alive.

It was there that I stumbled into a familiar face with a cowboy hat: Foster. I recognized him from his many news appearances, and I immediately introduced myself. I was 18 at the time, and Turning Point USA had zero donors and no real presence. I was just a kid from Chicago with a dream to change the world.

Foster warmly greeted me and told me the way to remember his name “was that you have a Foster’s beer and a pile of fries, then add an ‘S’ to it.” He told me his current portfolio of jokes, his favorite Bible verses and asked me what I wanted to do with my life. For those of you who knew Foster, that introduction makes perfect sense!

I clumsily told Foster my vision for TPUSA and how I felt young people needed to hear the conservative message. A few weeks later, he sent TPUSA $10,000—our first investment and the resources that got TPUSA started.

From there, Foster remained a steady and charming influence on my life and TPUSA’s biggest champion. He generously supported our mission time and time again, shocking the world when he would offer a matching gift of millions of dollars and inspire thousands of others to match his generosity and love for TPUSA.

I have thousands of pictures and stories I can share of Foster… His disgust for abbreviations without explaining what they mean. His commitment to only one person talking at a time at dinner. His unlimited inventory of jokes. His million-dollar smile that was built for Hollywood. His flair for the unpredictable. His unmatched generosity. His humble beginnings. His reverence for his closest friends. His love for America. His humble service to the Lord. His love for Lynn.

As a champion of entrepreneurship, Foster embodied the American Dream. He led a life that serves as a beacon of hope for numerous young Americans searching for inspiration in a world that can often seem dim and hopeless.

Foster’s wisdom was rooted in his love of God, nation, family, and the eternal beauty around us.

That brief moment on a staircase in 2012 flourished into a deep friendship. His legacy will remain in the hearts of Americans for many decades to come, and Foster has left an indelible mark on my own life.

My heart goes out to Lynn and the entire Friess family during this difficult time. I am praying for you and your family.

America has lost one of its greatest champions, and TPUSA has lost one of our most incredible friends. The world is a little dimmer without you in it, Foster. It is now up to us to continue your larger-than-life commitment to the best of our nature. You can count on us to continue carrying the torch of freedom and American greatness.

We miss you, Foster, and we pray that we will never let you down. You will be so dearly missed, Foster.

Sincerely,
