MORRIS PLAINS, N.J. - Today, the Morris County Democratic Committee's LGBTQA+ Caucus called on all of Morris County's 39 municipalities to honor Pride Month by passing resolutions recognizing the month and committing to fly the Pride Flag above their respective municipal buildings.

"This is more than just a flag," said Cara Parmigiani, a Morris Plains resident who serves as Founding Chair of the Morris County Democratic LGBTQA+ Caucus.  "It is a symbol, a beacon of hope, especially for Morris County's young people as they come to terms with their identities.  As someone who was bullied throughout my childhood, I believe we should be doing all we can to ensure our young people feel welcome in their communities."

June has been recognized as Pride Month at the federal level by three United States Presidents: Bill Clinton in 1999 and 2000, Barack Obama, and Joe Biden.

"I grew up in a county not that different from Morris," said T.C. McCourt, one of the founding members of the Caucus and Democratic candidate for Morris County Commissioner.  "So, I know exactly what our youth are feeling when they hear that their hometown hasn't recognized Pride Month.  It's demoralizing, and makes them feel less than.  In a time where we are trying to come together as a county, and as a nation, I can't think of a better way to extend our arms around Morris County's LGBTQA+ community and tell them once and for all - you are loved."

The Morris County Democratic Committee LGBTQA+ Caucus will be transmitting a letter to each of the county's municipalities explaining the vital need to recognize June as Pride Month and raise the Pride Flag in their communities.
