John,
Rep. Ted Lieu had a quick response to Mitch McConnell's suggestion that a January 6 commission would be redundant: “There is no current commission to investigate the insurrection, so the January 6 Commission would not be ‘another commission.' As a House Impeachment Manager, I know there are still multiple unknown facts. What are Kevin McCarthy & Sen McConnell hiding from the American public?”
We'd like to know too, Congressman Lieu.
In recent weeks, a number of Republicans in the House and Senate have baselessly claimed that the Capitol insurrection was really a peaceful protest led by “tourists.”
But preliminary investigations show that hundreds of members from white supremacist groups like the Proud Boys worked in unision to break into the Capitol and attack law enforcement. Did the GOP forget that rioters were calling to “hang Mike Pence?”
We're not going to let Republicans rewrite history on this attack. Democrats, and even 35 Republicans, approved a House measure to establish a bipartisan January 6 commission. Now we need to put pressure on the Senate. Please, let us know where you stand and help us send a message to Mitch McConnell:
Do you think Congress should establish a January 6 commission?
Thank you for adding your voice to this national debate today.
