CNN: "Capitol riot commission faces key Senate vote"
Hey folks,
Last week, the U.S. House voted to create a bipartisan commission to investigate the January 6th riot at the Capitol that left five dead and countless others injured, including more than 140 police officers. This commission would study what happened that day, and what we can do to stop something like it from ever happening again.
Now, the bill heads to the Senate, where Mitch McConnell and some Republicans are threatening to filibuster the commission. This is unacceptable. The American people -- especially those who lost loved ones on January 6 -- deserve answers, not political games.
Here in Georgia on January 6th, we had just made history by electing Jon Ossoff and Rev. Raphael Warnock to the U.S. Senate. It wasn’t just a victory for one party; it was a victory for representative democracy -- we broke turnout records as millions of people across all 159 counties made their voices heard.
Hours later, we watched in horror as a violent mob overran the very building that stands as a symbol of that democracy.
This isn’t a partisan issue. An angry group of civilians breached one of the most heavily guarded buildings in the country while officials were certifying a democratic election. The American people need answers.
