Dear NRDC Activist,

Imagine looking out your window and seeing your entire neighborhood
clouded in an orange haze. Your home smells like there’s a campfire
burning inside, but opening a window won’t help. The smoke is seeping in
from the outside.

It’s impossible to fall asleep as you wonder: will the wind blow the wrong
way tonight? Will our home be the next one consumed by fire?

This isn’t a nightmare. This is reality for the increasing number of
people in America harmed by wildfires and wildfire smoke — who are living
in fear that this year’s wildfire season will be even worse than the
devastation that’s come before.

Climate change is endangering millions of families as weather-related
disasters grow more extreme. [ [link removed] ]We need to act NOW to avert the worst
effects of climate change. NRDC has a plan, and if you make a donation of
$5 or more to power this important work right now your gift DOUBLES in
impact, up to our $300,000 goal.

2020 set a record for the most billion-dollar climate and weather
disasters ever recorded in the U.S.

Wildfires, heat waves, hurricanes, and floods are growing more extreme and
frequent by climate change, and it’s taking a crushing toll — with Black,
brown, and Indigenous communities disproportionately bearing the burden.

The reality is that climate-fueled weather events are displacing millions
of Americans (1.2 million in 2018 alone!) and wreaking havoc on public
health.

Yes, we must reduce the climate-burning carbon pollution that is fueling
climate change. But our fight MUST also prioritize preparedness and
efforts to get people out of harm’s way — and it MUST do so in a way that
is equitable and just.

That’s why NRDC’s Climate Action Plan centers the urgent need for local,
state, and federal governments to take action that will make communities
safer for those experiencing the worst impacts of climate change.

We cannot wait any longer to act on climate change — not when lives are at
stake. [ [link removed] ]Donate $5 or more now and your gift will DOUBLE in impact, doing
twice as much to strengthen our work for bold, decisive action on climate
change.

Sincerely,

Vijay Limaye
