Dear John,

Wow! Thank you for to the over 800 people who joined us yesterday as the New Deal for Youth Changemakers unveiled our policy platform and demands. For those of you who couldn’t join us, you can watch the full event here

Yesterday, we spent the afternoon jamming to Changemaker Aaron Mack’s original song, meeting our incredible cohort of Changemakers, hearing their demands, and reflecting on spoken word from Changemakers Aniya Butler, Oumou Kaba, and Chris Sutton.

Through guided meditation, a dance break, a panel discussion, and more, we cultivated a beautiful space to center youth voice and build momentum for A New Deal for Youth. As Changemaker Luis Hernandez powerfully said during our panel discussion, “We needed a New Deal decades ago… Policies can bring the systemic changes we need to thrive in our respective communities.”

Our transformational and holistic policy demands address the urgent challenges young people are facing due to COVID-19, the economic downturn, and structural racism. Our demands seed a long-term vision for how our nation can and must support all young people. We are developing visionary policy proposals and community solutions that can drive action toward healing and well-being, safe communities, and economic, climate, immigrant, and racial justice!

We know it will take intergenerational support and partnership to realize our demands and collective action, and we want to thank our champions in Congress and in the Biden Administration, some of whom we heard from yesterday. Thank you, Rep. Ayanna Pressley (MA-01) and Rep. Chuy Garcia (IL-04) for your powerful and inspirational words and your commitment to young people! We need and appreciate your support and partnership!

We can’t do this work without you. Please help us amplify our demands and grow the movement!
