** Suspected Murderers of Indigenous Leader Identified, yet Justice Remains Elusive in Costa Rica

A Costa Rican online newspaper recently published leaked information of a report by investigators into the March 18, 2019 murder of Costa Rican Bribri leader Sergio Rojas ([link removed]) , showing that the authorities had identified four suspects in the murder as long ago as September 19, 2019. ** Indigenous Peoples in Colombia Accuse Ivan Duque's Government of Repression

Local and regional Indigenous organizations in Colombia demand that President Iván Duque's government stop using violence against Colombian Peoples. On May 4, 2021, the National Indigenous Organization of Colombia (ONIC), which unites Indigenous Peoples in the country, branded the violent repression of the government as "state terrorism ([link removed]) " after armed attacks against civilians. ** Turning to Indigenous Knowledge to Boost Health in the Ngäbe Bugle Comarca

COVID-19 startled Indigenous Peoples in the Ngäbe Bugle Comarca region in the province of Bocas del Toro, Panama, due to a lack of readily available information. Indigenous Peoples have been navigating many layers of adverse conditions of colonization historically by overcoming epidemics and finding ways to harvest self-autonomy and boost immunity. ** Government Postpones Deliberation of Media Laws Due to Condemnation from Indigenous Media Practitioners

Following a successful advocacy campaign by the Indigenous Community Radio Network (ICRN), a grant partner of Cultural Survival’s Indigenous Community Media Fund, along with other media organizations in Nepal, the Nepali government has decided to hold back its plans to present new media legislation to the federal Parliament for approval. ** Honoring the Voices of Butterflies In Spirit

May 5th is the national day for action and justice for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls and Two Spirits (MMIWG2S) in Canada and the U.S.. Lorelei Williams is the founder of Butterflies In Spirit, a dance group that advocates for justice for MMIWG families and builds awareness of the violence against MMIWG based in Vancouver, British Columbia. ** The Impact of COVID-19 on Indigenous Peoples in India ([link removed])

The increasing cases of new variants of Coronavirus in India have resulted in much suffering and despair. Though the virus does not discriminate, India’s 104.30 million Indigenous people largely concentrated in the seven states of north-east India, and the central tribal belt stretching from Rajasthan to West Bengal, have been more adversely impacted, due to the lack of awareness and precautionary measures and due to ongoing obstacles in accessing government services.

South Africa boasts a very liberal constitution and eleven official languages, which however do not include many Indigenous languages. What is becoming more and more apparent lately is the exclusion of the Khoi and San languages especially from school curricula, radio, and television.
