John,
President Biden is releasing his first Presidential budget tomorrow, which kicks off a round of proposals and counterproposals. When Donald Trump was in the White House, his office proposed billions of dollars of cuts to Medicare and Social Security―cuts that were never enacted thanks to your tireless activism.
Because Joe Biden won the election in November, there will be no proposed Social Security or Medicare cuts in the President’s budget this year.
But Republicans are clamoring to get back in power, and they’re not being subtle about their plans. The Republican Study Committee in the House of Representatives is releasing its budget this week, and it’s a doozy.1
The Republican budget proposes:
-
Increasing the retirement age for Social Security
-
Increasing the eligibility age for Medicare
-
Converting Medicaid from a guaranteed benefit to a block grant, leading to millions of people losing insurance
-
Enacting a closed-door commission, similar to Mitt Romney’s TRUST Act, to slash Social Security and Medicare benefits further
-
$1.9 trillion in tax cuts, in addition to Trump's $2 trillion tax giveaway!
Social Security Works is dedicated to ensuring that these proposals are defeated―now, and in the future. We’re fighting to expand, never cut, Social Security and Medicare. Chip in $7 to save our earned benefits from Republicans!
Democrats won control of Congress and the Presidency on a promise to expand Social Security and lower prescription drug prices, and that’s what we’re going to do―not throw seniors under the bus to cut taxes even further for rich people and corporations.
Donald Trump may be gone, but his dreams of destroying Social Security, Medicare, and American democracy live on in today’s Republican Party. They must not win.
Chip in $7 today to save Social Security and Medicare from Republicans!
Thank you,
Alex Lawson Social Security Works
