Hi Friend,
We’re at that point in the countdown where we can almost -- but not quite -- close the books on another Texas legislative session.
Now, most Texans don’t pay too much attention to the day-to-day at the Capitol -- and I don’t blame them! There’s plenty else to do besides watch Republicans come up with creative ways to put Texans through hell. However, despite several truckloads’ worth of Republican bullshit, there have been more than a few amazing moments in our state legislature this spring. So as someone who’s been following along -- and who used to be even closer to the action as a state representative -- I wanted to share a couple of my takeaways with you.
I watched our Democratic lawmakers day in and day out this spring. And what I saw was heart. These are folks who are the lone voice for their constituents amidst a sea of Republicans trying to take away Texans’ rights. And instead of backing down, or turning tail, do you know what they did? They stood their ground. They got louder. They used every play in the playbook and every tool in the toolbox to try to stop Republicans from trampling on our rights.
I’ve got one word for that: grit. And you can take it from me that that Democratic grit is making a difference for Texans. In fact, this very minute, our despicable lieutenant governor, Dan Patrick, is whining about wanting to hold an extra legislative session because he couldn’t get any of his priority bills passed this spring -- even though he controls the Texas Senate. That says a heck of a lot about what Democrats have been able to accomplish.
Friend, if you’re like me, you’d like to see a whole lot less of Republicans’ pathetic excuse for leadership, and a whole lot more grit and heart in our legislature. There’s one way we make that happen: by electing more Democrats. Chip in $7 to fund the next step in Democratic organizing today:

I’ll leave you with one of my favorite quotes from this legislative session, because it’s too good not to share. Back in April, when Republicans tried to shut down Texans’ testimony on defending our right to vote, Democrats organized a makeshift citizens hearing so people could make their voices heard. State Rep Jessica González, the Vice Chair of the House Elections Committee, opened the hearing, and she said:
“We’re here for only one reason -- each and every one of you, each and every one of us: because your vote matters. We are going to fight tooth and nail to make sure our vote counts.”
The fight continues with every one of us.
Let’s give em hell,
