Dear Friend --

As more and more people are now vaccinated against COVID-19, we are starting to see an uptick in travel again — and the Long Beach Airport has remained the best flying experience around.

Passenger traffic at the Long Beach Airport is returning. We are seeing more than 50% of passengers pre-pandemic back at the Airport and more passengers are returning each week. Air travel is safe for people that have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19, and the airport continues to be a tremendous source of jobs, investment, and tourism in our city.

Long Beach already has one of the best airports in the country, but we are still moving forward with major improvements to make it even better. Following in the steps of a new parking structure and amazing new passenger concourse, the second phase of construction has begun and with it, we’ll see a retrofit of the Airport’s historic terminal and an upgrade at baggage claim and ticketing areas.

In addition to these new amenities and upgrades, Southwest Airlines recently began offering daily, nonstop service from Long Beach to Chicago, Dallas, Honolulu, Houston, Maui, Reno, and St. Louis. Hawaiian Airlines also recently added Maui to their list of destinations, in addition to their daily flight to Honolulu, so we now have five daily flights to the islands.

The Long Beach Airport’s commitment to our local community through their historic preservation and environmental sustainability efforts make them a fantastic partner and an important part of our city. Just last month, the Airport announced ambitious goals to reduce greenhouse gas emissions per passenger by 20% by 2025 and then 40% by 2030. We are one of the easiest airports to fly in and out of, and also a green airport.

I want to thank our Airport staff and Airport Commission for their hard work. To learn more and keep updated about all the progress at the Long Beach Airport, please visit longbeach.gov/lgb, take a tour on YouTube here or follow LGB on social media @LGBAirport.

Thank you and Go Long Beach,

Mayor Robert Garcia
