Dear John,
Earlier this month, my colleagues and I reached out to the AFSC community to ask for donations to help deliver essential supplies to Palestinian elders living under occupation in Gaza and the West Bank, and to help us advocate for Palestinian rights, including access to vaccines and healthcare. Then the bombing began.
We are deeply grateful to everyone in the AFSC community who gave to our fundraising effort and who responded to our calls to action to stop the airstrikes and stop U.S. complicity in the form of arms sales. Even before the devastating events of the past few weeks, COVID-19 was spreading. Now that tens of thousands have been displaced from their homes, the situation is even worse, and I am once again writing to ask for your help.
Make a gift today to help us get critical COVID-19 information and supplies to elders in Palestine and to support our work for a just and lasting peace. Click here: [link removed]
AFSC has been working in the region since 1948, and this is our third year helping to meet very basic needs for seniors who can’t afford or can’t access simple things like soap and cleaning supplies.
We now plan to deliver hygiene kits and other basic items to elders in Gaza and the West Bank as originally planned. However, we are also identifying elderly beneficiaries in Gaza whose homes were seriously damaged or destroyed. We will provide these beneficiaries with assistance beyond our standard package in the form of basic kitchen supplies. This will allow them to prepare their own meals despite the destruction in their homes.
A donation of $150 helps us provide a kit to one family. But a gift in any amount makes a difference. Please give today. Click here: [link removed]
There is much more work to do, both in humanitarian assistance and in advocating for policies that support a just and lasting peace. We are grateful for the support of caring people like you as we undertake that effort. Thank you for being part of a global AFSC community that cares for one another, stands up for human rights, and works for a world in which everyone can live in safety and peace. We couldn’t do this work without you.
In peace,
Michael Merryman-Lotze
