We at San Francisco Transit Riders are deeply saddened by the shooting this morning at the VTA rail yard. Our transit workers, including operators, maintenance crews, and supervisors, have had as difficult a year as any. Yet they continued to show up and make sure our cities can still move. These are front line heroes. We offer our condolences for the loss of life that happened today, and hold those who are suffering in the wake of those losses closely in our hearts. Public transportation is an expression of our cities and our cultures. At its best, it brings diverse people together and has a common civic purpose of enabling mobility for all. The shooting at VTA today strikes at the very heart of what connects us to each other and as a community. This is a tragedy for all of us who these people served. We hold the entire VTA staff and families in our hearts at this awful time. If you’re able to help, our friends at Working Partnerships USA in San Jose have created a fund to support victims and their families. With hopes for healing, Mark, Cat, Zack, Eric, B Rod, Sarah | |
