Friend,
We invite you to join us next week for a virtual discussion about the landscape of voting access in the South, where voter suppression is surging in the wake of the 2020 election. You'll learn about how we're fighting, alongside our Southern disability rights partners, to remove barriers to the polls that disproportionately and routinely disenfranchise low-income people, people with disabilities, new citizens and others.

Despite the COVID-19 pandemic and the uncertainty cast by rampant disinformation, voters cast ballots in record numbers in 2020 - including voters of color and voters with disabilities. But now, proponents of voter suppression tactics are pointing to high turnout to explain away the very real flaws in America's democratic systems. They're also circulating the "big lie" of nonexistent voter fraud problems, using it as a pretext to further restrict ballot access in state legislatures across the country, including in three of our target states: Alabama, Florida and Georgia.
At this event you'll hear stories from SPLC clients and outreach staff about how these restrictions affect our communities' ability to exercise their political power - and how we're organizing with our partners to overcome these obstacles. Nancy Abudu, the SPLC's Interim Strategic Litigation Director, will moderate a panel discussion featuring SPLC staff, clients and partners.
