Friend -
A year ago, George Floyd was murdered in broad daylight by police officers who were sworn to protect him.
His death sparked the largest protest movement around policing that this nation has seen. And while Floyd’s family received a small measure of justice when his killer was convicted, we still have not seen federal legislation to overhaul our broken policing system.
We MUST pass the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act and end qualified immunity, which protects officers from accountability. Will you join me in calling on the Senate to act? >>> [[link removed]]
In the time between George Floyd’s death and his killer’s conviction, more than 1,000 lives were lost to police violence. That’s unacceptable.
During my campaign, I put forward a bold plan to reimagine public safety and hold police accountable. Many of the provisions we fought for are included in the bill already passed by the House.
Now, it is time for the Senate to act. We can’t let the Jim Crow-era filibuster stand in the way of this critical legislation. If you believe it’s time to overhaul public safety and hold police accountable for misconduct, add your name to demand that the Senate act now. >>> [[link removed]]
This cannot wait.
Thank you,
Julián Castro
