When Chrissy ran for Congress, she knew education had to continue to be a top priority. She promised, if elected, she would champion policies that promote educational opportunities – from early learning programs to adult literacy programs.

As a chemistry teacher, she was dismayed to see so little diversity amongst her colleagues. She believes students must be able to look up to their teachers and see themselves and their likeness reflected.

With a teacher shortage of over 110,000 nationwide, low-performing and low-income schools disproportionately suffer from a lack of qualified teachers.

And this shortage is worsened by schools’ inability to recruit and retain diverse teachers and ensure that teachers receive the necessary training to thrive.

This bill will strengthen the recruitment pipeline and training programs, especially in socio-emotional learning, special education, and behavioral management training at Minority Serving Institutions, including Historically Black Colleges and Universities and Hispanic Serving Institutions.
