Back in 2016, Charlie Baker interviewed an unqualified applicant for the top job at the Holyoke Soldiers’ Home. One box the applicant checked was that he came from a politically connected family. That was enough for Baker, who we now know falsely claimed to have had no role in the interview process.

We now know the devastating reverberations of that predictably bad decision. Terrible decisions made at the home in responding to the COVID-19 pandemic contributed to a tragic death toll of 76 veterans.

When the scrutiny began, so did Charlie Baker’s cover-up.

Bombshell reporting now reveals that Charlie Baker not only played politics in this critical hire, but he was also untruthful when he answered questions about the hire and about what he and his top Deputies knew about what was happening at the Soldiers’ Home.

It should come as no surprise that instead of coming clean and answering questions, Baker decided that now is a good time to leave the state. Rather than take accountability for the cover up at the Soldiers’ Home, Baker headed to Nashville with the Republican Governors Association.

Instead of taking accountability for his failure in Holyoke, Baker’s rubbing elbows with the operatives and donors that elect Republicans like Doug Ducey, Ron Desantis, Greg Abbott, Brian Kemp, and others who’ve rolled back abortion rights, voter protections, and gun safty measures. It’s unacceptable, and that’s why we’re asking you for your support today.
