THE FORUM

MAY 2021 EDITION

John, meet Karen Benitez-Lopez.

Karen is a DACA recipient who was brought to the U.S. at just two years
old. She grew up in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and had two full-time
jobs by the time she was 18. Now, she's pursuing her dream of working
as a preschool teacher and sharing Spanish, her native language, with
her students.

As the DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) program that has
allowed her to remain in the U.S. without fear of deportation hangs in
the balance, so do her dreams for the future in the only place she calls
home. You can read the rest of Karen's story here
.

Just like Karen, over 600K DACA recipients live and contribute to our
country and communities in countless ways...

**There has long been bipartisan support** for finding a permanent
legislative solution for the nation's 3-4 million undocumented
immigrants who came to the U.S. as children, known as Dreamers.

**Currently, only around 2 of every 10 Dreamers have been offered
temporary protection from deportation by the DACA program.**

"There's a lot of people wanting to contribute more fully to the
economy, and they should be given that chance," says Dreamer Bernardo
Castro in an Only in America

podcast about his life undocumented in Utah and his advocacy work for
the roughly 2.3 million Dreamers in the U.S.

Join Bernardo, and act now to give all Dreamers the security and
stability they've earned.

"Most Americans understand that DACA can be fixed, and to me, that would
be a good place to start,"

George W. Bush, 43rd President of the U.S. said during a panel we
co-hosted earlier this month. Watch the full conversation with President
Bush, Dr. Russ Moore and Yuval Levin here
.

And President Bush isn't alone...leaders from across the nation have
joined our advocacy work in support of DACA. Here's what we've been
up to lately:

* Organized congressional meetings with businesses like Levi Strauss &
Co., Cummins, Best Buy and Tyson Foods to call for a permanent solution

* Joined 100+ companies including Apple, Microsoft, Facebook, Amazon and
Google, in a statement of support

* Collaborated with partners to mobilize national security experts, law
enforcement leaders, veterans, and thousands of pastors and evangelical
leaders to join the call

But this work is just the tip of the iceberg. Even though nearly 70% of
Americans support a pathway to citizenship for Dreamers,

**congressional offices often receive significantly more telephone calls
from those against a pathway than from those who are supportive.**

That's why your voice in support of our nation's Dreamers is needed
now, more than ever. Tell your Senators to give these young Dreamers a
permanent home.
