Legislators in Springfield are currently working on an energy bill. In the bill, they should include a goal of 100% carbon-free electricity by 2030, which is contained in the proposed Clean Energy Jobs Act. Climate science tells us that we must dramatically scale back emissions by 2030 if we are to avoid the worst effects of climate change. President Biden aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 50 percent by 2030, and decarbonizing the power sector is one of the best ways to achieve this goal.
Unfortunately, Governor Pritzker has proposed to allow natural gas plants to operate until 2045, which is far too late. Please join us on Thursday, May 27 at 8:00 PM to take action in support of rapid decarbonization. We will call and email legislators and Governor Pritzker to ask them to include an ambitious decarbonization goal in any energy legislation.
