Friends,
President Biden will be in Tulsa on June 1st for the centennial commemoration of the Tulsa Race Massacre. We are grateful that our President is recognizing the atrocities that took place in Tulsa, and for acknowledging the responsibility our community and country have to correct the wrongs of the past and present. We can never back down in the fight for equality and justice.
The fact is - it wasn't long ago that our country had a president whose goal was to incite those same sentiments of hate and fear that led to the atrocities of 1921. Our governor seems determined to follow that same path. He signed legislation that attempts to restrict educators from teaching honestly about racism, resulting in his removal from the Tulsa Centennial Commission.
The Oklahoma Democratic Party is working every day to to unseat those like our governor who work to uphold systemic racism. We eagerly await the arrival of President Biden, and enthusiastically support the work of creating a just and equitable Oklahoma.
