*Demolition of part of the former Broadmarsh Shopping Centre to begin in June*

Broadmarsh demolition

I?m pleased to see a further significant step in the transformation of the Broad Marsh area, with demolition of part of the former Broadmarsh shopping centre scheduled to begin this summer.? Initial works will demolish the centre from its junction with Carrington Street to the NCP Arndale Car Park, with further demolition of the shopping centre expected to follow this initial phase, subject to the council securing further funding.

Preparatory work will begin on site in mid-June, including relocating the walkway between Collin Street and Lister Gate to the east, to allow demolition of the western part of the former shopping centre building to begin.

Broad Marsh certainly is an area of contrasts at the moment ? our great successes in building a modern, energy generating car park and bus station, the Nottingham College City Hub and the new public spaces we?re building located directly next to the currently unattractive, half-demolished former Broadmarsh shopping centre site. Thankfully, we were able to act quickly and secure ?12 million for the first phase of demolition and work beginning soon will make a huge difference to the look and feel of the area. Free school meals vouchers available for families this half-term

School children

Nottingham City Council is again giving out ?15 digital supermarket vouchers to support families over half-term. For qualifying families, your children?s school will get in touch to give you your voucher. Vouchers will also be available for families with younger children in pre-school settings and older children in Further Education settings that meet the criteria. ?

We are proud to once again put measures in place to help feed hungry children this half-term and we will ensure practical help is provided directly to households most in need of our support. My message is clear, if families need support, they can call Nottingham City Council and we will make sure they get the help they need. Find out more here [ [link removed] ].

*Public feedback guides next steps for active travel schemes*

cyclists

You may remember in March and April this year we invited views and comments on more than a dozen schemes designed to make walking and cycling into and around Nottingham easier.

We received more than 3,300 responses, and have been busy analysing the results and feedback. Updates are now available on all of the schemes including, the proposal to make permanent the closure to through traffic at Victoria Embankment, several schemes in Sherwood and Berridge designed to reduce cut-through traffic and making the School Streets schemes outside 14 schools in the city permanent. Find out more about these and the other schemes: Nottingham Active Travel Fund [ [link removed] ].

The proposed measures followed a successful bid by the City Council for ?2.5 million in total from the Government?s Active Travel Fund and, once implemented, will help to encourage more sustainable travel, and support a green recovery from Covid-19.

*Nottingham Electric Vehicle Services (NEVS)*

Cllr Longford at NEVS

You might have seen Nottingham City Council featured recently on the BBC?s Rip-Off Britain programme ? but for a very positive reason! We?re extremely proud that we?re the UK's first local authority to run a dedicated service centre exclusively for ultra-low emission vehicles ? Nottingham Electric Vehicle Services (NEVS).

We appeared in the episode as an example of best practice after a local motorist had struggled to get a fault on his electric car correctly diagnosed and fixed with another garage.

Our NEVS centre is there to service our own ever-increasing electric fleet, but is also open to local businesses and private customers for MOTs, servicing and repairs by expert mechanics. They recently carried out a MOT and repairs to my EV and I was very impressed by the friendly and efficient service and good value for money.

You can read more about the services on offer at NEVS [ [link removed] ], and watch the clip from RIP-Off Britain [ [link removed] ]
