[1]Tammy Duckworth
I took these photos after armed insurrectionists broke into our nation’s Capitol—the citadel of our government—on January 6th. This was how they left my office and the hallway outside of it.

I share these with you today because Republicans seem hell-bent on rewriting history and lying that this violent insurrection was really just a “peaceful protest.” Or in the words of one Republican Congressman, as a group of “tourists.”
Trust me, these were not tourists. I was there.
We need to get to the bottom of how this insurrection happened and start closing gaps in our security so it NEVER happens again.
But Mitch McConnell is trying to torpedo the creation of a bipartisan commission to investigate the events of that day because he would rather bury the truth than take responsibility for enabling Trump as he fomented this riot.
We need ten Republican Senators to cross party lines and vote in favor of creating the commission. I truly hope that at least some of my Republican colleagues can be trusted to do the right thing here -- but I’m hoping you will help me keep the pressure up nonetheless.
Sign my petition calling on Senate Republicans to vote in favor of creating a bipartisan commission to investigate the January 6th insurrection at the Capitol and events leading up to it. We need to get to the bottom of what happened that day.

I also want to again thank the Capitol Police for keeping us safe from these so called “tourists.” These officers put their own safety on the line to protect us that day and I am forever grateful.
I am also shocked that Republican members of Congress can walk into work at the Capitol building and look these officers in the face while voting to torpedo this commission. They should be ashamed.
Yours,
Tammy Duckworth
