The Senate is expected to vote TOMORROW on forming a 9/11-style bipartisan commission to investigate the January 6 insurrection, but Mitch McConnell and other far-right senators are trying to block it!
We can’t let their cowardly desperation to keep the spotlight off of what former President Trump and his mob did that day – and, yes, how some within their own ranks might have helped incite the insurrection – prevent the accountability necessary to avert another, perhaps even worse, assault on our democracy!

If House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell get their way – former President Trump and his staunchest supporters may evade accountability for their role in the January 6 insurrection.
Just as a bipartisan deal was announced to form a 9/11-style commission to investigate the events leading up to and surrounding the insurrection waged by Trump’s supporters, McCarthy and McConnell announced their opposition to the proposal – preferring instead to further insulate Trump and his supporters from an investigation into their actions that seriously jeopardized our democracy.
What happened on January 6 and the desire to investigate what led to it should transcend party politics, but instead of supporting what is best for the country, McCarthy and McConnell have chosen to shield Trump yet again – first during the impeachment trial following the insurrection and now by opposing a bipartisan plan to investigate what happened.
And rather than acknowledge the events that occurred, many on the Far Right are already engaging in revisionist history; with some Republican members of Congress likening the events on January 6 to “a normal tourist visit,” a claim that anyone who witnessed the horrific events that day knows is outrageous.
Our nation deserves better, and we deserve to know what led to the dangerous attacks on January 6 in the pursuit of accountability for those involved, including former President Trump.
As the nation moves forward to address the many failures of the Trump administration and navigating our way out of the pandemic, those on the Far Right have chosen to double down on Trumpism and all that it represents.
We cannot allow them to succeed.
