Hi John,
In 2020, Run for Something endorsed 666 diverse, young progressives for state and local office.
Unfortunately, not every candidate won -- it's the nature of politics: We win some, we lose some. An incredible silver lining?
All of these candidates, regardless of the outcome at the polls, played an enormous role in defeating Donald Trump.
Since 2017, Run for Something has been telling everyone and their mom about our theory of a Reverse Coattails effect: where state and local candidates act as hyperlocal representatives for top-of-the-ticket candidates and deliver them an electoral bump. I wrote all about it in the Huffington Post -- we
really put our faith in this idea.
But now, it's not just an idea -- it's a demonstrable
fact. According to our research, recruiting and supporting candidates for state legislative districts delivered President Biden a 0.3% to 1.5% bump in the vote.
That's President Biden's margin of victory in 4 battleground states, John.
If we're going to hold onto the White House, expand our majority in Congress, and control the legislative agendas of states -- we need to keep investing in down-ballot elections. Will you chip in
