This country saw an outpouring of outrage over police violence in the wake of George Floyd’s murder, and today on the anniversary of his death, we are experiencing mixed feelings and mixed results. While some communities have taken bold steps to reimagine public safety and address systemic police violence, the killings have continued.
As we fight for the reforms that are so desperately needed, we must also acknowledge a fundamental truth that is often ignored: the only good officers are the ones who have the courage to stand up to the bad officers. The others are simply accomplices.
While we truly believe the hearts and minds of an entire nation were opened by George Floyd’s death and the evidence of brutal killings of Black Americans, there is still so much work to do.
