Friends and Activists!
There is so much significant about a phone call and letter I received yesterday!  It came from Larry -- our new liaison to Grapevine/Colleyville ISD.  That's my favorite part, and it's what I really want you to notice!  Our liaison program!  It's incredible when we've got people who step up to serve because it gives us eyes and ears inside the system.  And boy are we learning a lot now at GCISD!

Larry jumped in and was shocked at what he found to be going on in our local schools.  Through open records requests and teamwork with other parents, all kinds of proof has been found that yes, indeed, Critical Race Theory is being taught in our schools.  Even as young as first grade, students are learning to be ashamed to be white.

We know that Southlake schools just fought this very same thing and won!  Now we are hopeful that GCISD voters will be just as outraged and vote for change in the current runoff elections going on now.  We have endorsed Shannon Braun for School Board.

What about YOUR school district?  If you don't live in GCISD, are you off the hook?  Not so fast!  In fact, here's what Larry now says...

I historically have considered school board elections as not as important as
other races.  Until the last few years, I naively just figured things were
being taught in the schools as they were taught when I was in school.
That ignorance is embarrassing to admit.  Today, school board races
have "zoomed" (pun intended) to the top of my list due their implications.

So here's your homework:

  1. Go vote!  You can find Go vote!  You can find our list of suggestions here. here.
  2. Sign up to be a liaison!  We want one person assigned to every single elected office in all the counties where we are now located.  That's a lot of liaisons holding a lot of elected people accountable.  You can email [email protected] to sign up.
  3. Go to YOUR school board and submit some open records requests to discover what you might find yourself.  Just today I received a message for the incumbent at GCISD insisting CRT does not exist in our schools.  I now have proof in black and white that she's lying.  I'm pretty sure most of you will find something in your schools too.

Not sure how to spot Critical Race Theory lessons?  Here are some examples from GCISD that Larry helped us obtain:

  • A friend's daughter's 1st grade class spends 40 minutes/day (8-8:40am - when the children are at their sharpest) in what is called "Social and Emotional Learning"
  • Another friend's 4th grade son (with a Spanish surname) was told by his teacher to stand face-to-face with a white boy, each telling the other what it's like to be the race they are.
  • Another friend happened to walk by the computer when her 3rd grade son was in a ZOOM class early this school year.  On the screen were two girls - one, a black girl at a table eating fried chicken and corn on the cob (these educators are astonishingly tone-deaf to their own message!!) and the other, an Oriental girl eating Chinese noodles.  The teacher asked the class "Now, how is the proper way for these girls to show empathy for each other".  Of course the teacher had to explain the definition of "empathy".  Answer to the question - "They should give their food away."  [Can anyone say - "redistribution"?]  Of course one is left to wonder what other things are happening on the screen when the parent is not watching.
  • Here are a few images showing examples.  They are poor quality, but I can email you the brochure if you'd like.  Just reply to this email.

And one also has to wonder what part of the "three R's" has been sacrificed for this time
intrusion in each school day.  In GCISD, the schools have dropped from top 10 to only top 100 since the new programs were implemented.  Again I ask, what is going on in YOUR schools?

It takes all hands on deck to push back.  Please do your part!
With much appreciation,
Volunteers Julie McCarty with Larry
