<[link removed]>Friend,
If you are from many of our URGE States, you may already know that some states legally bar LGBTQ+ inclusive sex ed in schools. Some states even have penalties for teaching young people accurate information about LGBTQ+ folks. This is NOTokay.
Young people need sex education that affirms their identities and their real experiences, so they can make informed decisions about their lives.
This is why URGE and our federal sex ed coalition partners are proud to introduce the new and improved comprehensive sex ed bill, the Real Education & Access for Healthy Youth Act (REAHYA)! <[link removed]>
<[link removed]>Ask Congress to support REAHYA. <[link removed]>
If passed, REAHYA would provide federal grants to eligible entities to provide comprehensive sex ed and sexual health services to young people. REAHYA acknowledges the role that white supremacy, heteronormativity, xenophobia, and anti-Blackness has played and continues to play in the inability for young people, especially marginalized young people, to access affirming and equitable sex ed and sexual health services.
<[link removed]>Comprehensive, inclusive sex education is a priority for us here at URGE: Unite for Reproductive & Gender Equity.
Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ+) youth – particularly those who are at the intersection of multiple marginalized communities – need to be able to learn in settings that are inclusive of their experiences and that give them the necessary tools to stay safe and healthy.
However, whether legally barred or simply ignored, LGBTQ+-inclusive sex education is not available for most youth, especially for LGBTQ youth who are Black, Indigenous, and other people of color (BIPOC).
