John,
Today marks one year since George Floyd was murdered by a racist and
broken policing system. We are mourning today for George’s family and the
heartbreaking loss that they are enduring.
We at Women's March are renewing our calls — louder than ever — to protect
Black lives and reform the systems that continue to put Black lives at
risk.
That means rooting out white supremacy wherever we see it. That means
fighting to defund the police in our communities and reimagining the way
we approach public safety. And it means everyone — especially white folks
— committing to long-term work towards racial justice.
Anti-racist work requires a lifelong commitment — whether it’s trending on
Twitter or not. We need marathon runners, not just sprinters. It will take
a lifelong commitment in each of us to not only fight to dismantle
systemic racism in our institutions, but also a lifelong journey of
educating, listening, and taking action on anti-racism ourselves.
So today we’re asking you to take one small step in making that commitment
clear:
The Movement for Black Lives introduced a sweeping bill last year to
radically address police violence and transform the criminal legal system
called the BREATHE Act. This visionary bill divests our taxpayer dollars
from brutal and discriminatory policing and invests in a new vision of
public safety — a vision that answers the call to defund the police and
allows all communities to finally BREATHE free.
It’s our job now to put the pressure on Congress to pass this bill. [ [link removed] ]Can

We must fight for Black lives and root out white supremacy whenever and
wherever we see it. It’s why for the past year Women’s March has been
organizing for racial justice, mobilizing in the streets and online to
demand urgent change, and educating women on how to be anti-racist allies
in this movement. There’s still so much work ahead of us — but together,
we can continue bending the arc toward justice.
