** Hecho a Mano. Episode 2: Timoteo Ccarita Sacaca
------------------------------------------------------------

Last month we announced our first-ever Hecho a Mano (Handmade) podcast in Spanish produced by Cultural Survival, highlighting our Spanish-speaking artists! We are excited to follow Episode 1 featuring Eva Vasquez Clemente and her cornhusk doll artistry (listen here if you missed it! ([link removed]) ), with Episode 2 on Timoteo Ccarita Sacaca ([link removed]) (Quechua). Timoteo not only taught himself to become a master weaver after originally learning from his mother but also studied and revitalized ancient dying techniques from communities near Pitumarca, Peru. Timoteo tells us about how, years ago, he came upon 300-year-old fabrics made with natural dyes, and how the fabrics also preserved a central part of his ongoing work and motivation, the Andean cosmovision.

The Bazaar Program ([link removed]) is a key component of Cultural Survival’s Indigenous rights model, not only supporting creativity as a way of life and communing with the natural world, or for cultural continuity, but also because selling art and crafts is the second highest source of income generation for Indigenous communities. At 18, Timoteo became a salesman in addition to an artist, when he saw the economic needs of his community. He willingly walked 7-14 days at a time to gather art from nearby communities to sell and transport to Cusco. Now, decades later, he is still preserving natural dyeing techniques, caring for the 133 artists he represents, and continuing to teach Inca cosmology. Listen to the new episode to learn more!

The podcast Hecho a Mano ([link removed]) podcast is an offering from our Bazaar Program to highlight artists sharing wisdom from their Indigenous traditions.

***Note: We have decided to postpone all in-person Bazaars in 2021 since COVID-19 is still spiking in some areas of the world and travel restrictions into the U.S. continue to fluctuate.

** Hecho a Mano. Episodio 2: Timoteo Ccarita Sacaca

------------------------------------------------------------

UU. Continúan fluctuando.
