Hi Friend,
The news is good, but it’s complicated. While the pandemic is slowing down, lingering emotional and mental distress is affecting many Americans.
A delayed reaction is normal as you shift from survival mode to thinking about what you experienced. But these feelings can overwhelm, and for some, deepen into moral injury. In some instances, moral injury has led people to leave their careers, misuse drugs or alcohol, withdraw from significant relationships, or even take their own lives.
WHAT IS RESILIENCE STRENGTH TIME? Volunteers of America has responded to this growing need for mental health support through a powerful nationwide program, Resilience Strength Time or VOA | ReST. It is an online peer-facilitated, small-group process. Sessions are free, online, and confidential. Our frontline workers and caregivers — for VOA, the backbone of our support system — have found great comfort and results from participating. VOA | ReST is also for veterans, spiritual leaders, and, really, anyone needing support for moral distress.
The VOA | ReST framework is not new, borrowing from VOA’s original Resilience Strength Training ™, an evidence-based program for military veterans.
As a partner with VOA, you can see how VOA | ReST fits well with a mission of improving lives and helping those in need. Whatever it takes, we’ll be there!
Gratefully, Stephanie Paauwe, Vice President Volunteers of America
