Content warning: This email discusses police violence and murder.

Today marks one year since George Floyd was murdered by police. My heart
is with his family — and all Black and Brown families who have had a loved
one taken from them by the police.

George Floyd's life mattered. Manuel Ellis's life mattered. Breonna
Taylor's life mattered. Tony McDade's life mattered. The lives we lost to
police violence mattered. It's important that we say their names and say
that Black Lives Matter. But we must also honor them with action —
organizing to end police brutality, anti-Blackness, and racism.

A first, transformative step is finally passing the George Floyd Justice
in Policing Act and sending it to the president's desk. The House did its
part, but the painful reality is that this bill faces an uncertain future
in the Senate until we end the filibuster.

[ [link removed] ]Justice for Black and Brown communities can't wait. We must all raise
our voices and demand action. Will you add your name to our petition
calling on the Senate to end the filibuster and pass the George Floyd
Justice in Policing Act?

The George Floyd Justice in Policing Act is the most transformative
policing intervention introduced by Congress in recent memory. It would
reimagine policing by ending qualified immunity, banning chokeholds,
establishing a police misconduct registry, and demilitarizing the police.

But until the Senate takes action, our march toward justice will be
tragically and unnecessarily stalled by political inaction. [ [link removed] ]Add your
name to our petition calling on the Senate to urgently end the filibuster
and finally pass the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act.

While it is important that we clearly say "Black Lives Matter," it is not
enough. We must fight for Black and Brown lives and finally secure real,
meaningful, and transformative justice. Thank you for joining me in making
it happen.

In solidarity,

Pramila
