Hey John,
This year has been rough. The pandemic brought sickness, job losses, and financial hardship to my community and countless others like it. And if there’s one thing we’ve learned over the past year, it’s that far too many people are being denied the right to a good job with benefits and a living wage.
That’s why we’re pushing Joe Biden to establish a Civilian Climate Corps (CCC) — a government jobs program that would put millions of Americans to work to help combat the climate crisis. We're fighting for a CCC that would:
- Put 1.5 million people to work over 5 years.
- Pay every worker a minimum of $15/hour and provide full health coverage.
- Be rooted in justice and equity, with at least 50% of jobs and investments in frontline communities and pathways to union membership.
- Give workers up to $25,000 a year for educational expenses, including paying off student loans.

Here’s the good news, John: Thanks to the hard work of progressive organizers, Biden now says he supports the concept of a CCC.
But here’s the catch: Biden still hasn’t announced the details, and his budget is nowhere near enough to fund the bold, once-in-a-generation CCC we need. Under his plan, the CCC could only create 10-20,000 jobs a year. For context, the New Deal program that inspired the CCC created 300,000 jobs a year with a population less than half the current size.
We need good jobs that will help restore our communities and create a livable future. Join us in demanding a robust, fully funded CCC that creates millions of good jobs and meets this moment.
In solidarity,
Lauren, Sunrise
