John,

It’s been one year since George Floyd was murdered by Minneapolis police officers in broad daylight. George Floyd was a brother, a father, a ballplayer, and a proud “mama’s boy.” He should be alive today. In the last year, we’ve witnessed the loss of far too many Black and Brown lives at the hands of police -- but this racist violence is not new. Police brutality is a shameful part of our past and present, and a constant reality for Black Americans.

The profound grief, and renewed anger that wash over us when police violence claims another Black life, more Black dreams, another Black future are all too familiar in our country. We must fight for justice, and we will not rest until Black Lives truly Matter in the eyes of our justice system. Long-term, sustainable systemic change can happen. We must demand it in protest, fight for it at the polls, and pressure our elected officials to take action through State and Federal legislation.

We have a lot of work to do in order but we can start to work toward meaningful change TODAY. Take action now by calling your senators and urging them to support the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act, a vital step towards meaningful criminal justice reform.

CALL YOUR SENATORS NOW [[link removed]] If the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act is passed, this sweeping legislation would:

- Ban chokeholds at the federal level
- Make it easier to pursue claims of police misconduct
- End “qualified immunity” for law enforcement
- Increase accountability for police officers
- Restrict no-knock warrants
- Mandate data collection during police encounters
- Prohibit racial and religious profiling
- Redirect funding to community-based policing programs

We can stop history from repeating itself by calling our senators and making our voices heard in support of this important legislation.

CALL YOUR SENATORS [[link removed]]

Try to call on a business day during standard business hours, 9 AM-5 PM ET. But if you’re calling at night or on a weekend, leave a voicemail and your message will still get to your senator.

The George Floyd Justice in Policing Act is a critical first step in the fight to end police violence. Together, we can work to make our country one in which everyone feels safe and can make their voice heard. Thanks for being a part of our team.
