You’ve probably heard of Ohio U.S. Representative Jim Jordan. FIRST: Jordan was one of the loudest proponents of the seditious “stop the steal” rhetoric after voters soundly rejected former President Trump in 2020. THEN: In the runup to the insurrection on January 6, this “big lie” was peddled by Jordan and other extreme members of his party which contributed to the violence at the Capitol. NOW: Jordan is obstructing any chance of accountability. Last week, he voted against a bipartisan commission to study the impact and contributing factors of the insurrection. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but a recent report by the New York Times made it clear: Gerrymandering may shield insurrection apologists and enablers like Jim Jordan from being held accountable by voters at the ballot box if we don’t end map manipulation.Jordan’s “duck” district is currently one of the most convoluted districts in the state that includes suburbs of Columbus, goes almost to the Indiana border, and scoops up almost all the way to Lake Erie. These gerrymandered lines protect Jordan from being held accountable at the ballot box, which is why it’s unsurprising that he “legislates” like an extreme ideologue.
