Hey,
One year ago, George Floyd was murdered by Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin as dozens of bystanders tried to intervene. Video of the killing spread around the world, and helped spark a summer of global action demanding justice.
While last month's guilty verdict was critical in showing that police officers who act recklessly with the lives of those they've sworn to protect can be held accountable, it's not enough. George Floyd wasn't the first person to be killed by officers who violated the law and departmental policies, and unfortunately, he was not the last.
We can't wait for the next tragedy or the next wave of marches to spark change. The Senate must take action to pass the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act immediately, so we can reform our broken system.
If you agree that the Senate must act now to prevent the deaths of more Black Americans like George Floyd, show your support for the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act now.
Last year, Bob joined with Kamala Harris, Cory Booker, and fellow Democrats to co-sponsor the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act. This critical legislation would improve police training, establish a national police misconduct registry, demilitarize local police, ban no-knock warrants for drug offenses, and make it easier to hold police accountable in our courts.
By passing this law, we can make it easier to remove reckless officers like Derek Chauvin from the streets; ban racial profiling, chokeholds, and carotid holds; ensure that misconduct is tracked; and help protect the civil rights of every American.
Now we need to build the momentum to help make it law.
Join Bob in demanding police reform and defending our civil rights. Sign the petition and support the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act now.
Thank you,
Team Casey
